Great Northern Railway Tavern

The Great Northern Railway Tavern
67 High Street
Hornsey
N8 7QB

Unlike The Three Compasses, the Great Northern Railway Tavern is a grade II listed building and it is on CAMRA's London Regional Inventory of Pub Interiors of Special Historic Interest.

Originally built in 1897 by Shoebridge & Rising. This 3 storey pub is built in Flemish Renaissance style.

The pub's interior was remodelled by Roderick Gradidge in the twentieth century but the remodelling was handled with care and sensitivity to the history of the building.

Strong features within the interior include the L shaped servery, which retain its 1897 counter, decorated mirrors which line the bar back, plaster friezes on walls and painted glass skylights.

The pub's name comes from the east coast mainline railway which the pub is not far from.

The Great Northern Railway featured on Racing, Railways and Prime Ministers: Daytime Crawl of Wood Green, Hornsey, Crouch End, Finsbury Park and Harringay in June 2009, and the Queens, Earls and Tories: Daytime Crawl of Hornsey, Crouch End, Crouch Hill and Harringay in February 2014.
