Although this iconic riverside pub is not one of London’s Real Heritage Pubs, it is a grade II listed building and the listing description is as follows: “1830. Front to Park Row 3 storeys. Stucco, with angle pilasters supporting cornice and parapet and resting on rusticated ground floor quoins. 1st floor band. Left side of this floor blank. 4-light windows in centre, the 2nd floor with wrought iron balcony resting on roof of square bay 1st floor window. This gives onto balcony with wrought iron rail above projecting porch with rudimentary paired, square columns and entablature. At right side 3 sash windows with glazing oars on 1st and 2nd floors, slated mansard with 2 dormers above. 3-light ground floor sash window with glazing bars has recessed panel below. River front 3 wide bays, 3-storey centre and 2-storey sides, resting on retaining wall to river below. Stucco with cornice and parapet. 2nd floor centre bay recessed, with 2-column Ionic screen supporting entablature at higher level than parapet. Wrought iron bow front balcony, On 1st floor 3 grouped sash windows with glazing bars are flanked by quasi-Corinthian pilasters which support semicircular decorative panels with large, shell motifs. Cast iron bow front balcony resting on round ground floor bay with swept lead roof and pierced bargeboards. 5 sash windows with glazing bars in this bay, the 2nd and 5th very narrow. The side bays have 1st floor rounded bows under swept, lead roofs with pierced bargeboards. 3 large, sash windows, with delicate glazing bars, in each, giving on to rounded balcony, with cast iron rail, supported on curved wood brackets. 3 grouped sash windows, with glazing bars and wrought iron guards, to ground floor. Inside lavishly restored in the style of 1780, after war damage.”
