Beaconsfield

The Beaconsfield
357-359 Green Lanes
Harringay
N4 1DZ

Although this pub is not a listed building it is on the Regional Inventory.

The Beaconsfield was built in 1886-7 by Alexander and Gibbon who took inspiration from the seventeenth century for a number of details.

The Beaconsfield takes its name from the 19th century Conservative politician, who twice became Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli. Disraeli was given the title Earl of Beaconsfield in 1876.

A change in the internal arrangements in 1897 produced the current island servery which still stands.

In addition to the severy, other Victorian features include the intricately detailed ceiling, etched mirrors near the rear of the pub, stained glass and half a dozen cast iron columns.

Divisions between the separate rooms were removed at various stages through the 20th century.

The Beaconsfield featured on the Racing, Railways and Prime Ministers: Daytime Crawl of Wood Green, Hornsey, Crouch End, Finsbury Park and Harringay in June 2009, and the Queens, Earls and Tories: Daytime Crawl of Hornsey, Crouch End, Crouch Hill and Harringay in February 2014.
