This pub is not only a grade II listed building, it is also a One Star pub on CAMRA’s National Inventory as a pub of Special National Historic Interest and the description is as follows: “The oldest-surviving pub in Mayfair. Three- storey pub built c.1748 and stuccoed in 1850. Grade II-listed. Has an extraordinary bar-back fitting which protrudes forward in the centre forming a canopy over the central area of the servery; dado panelling looks old. The rear seating area features an attractive marble and wood fireplace. The pub is popular with business people from the surrounding area.” The listing description is as follows: “Public house on corner with Hay's Mews. cl748 and early Cl9. Stucco tiled roof. Three storeys, basement and dormered mansard. Three windows. Channelled ground floor returned, under cornice, to Hay's Mews with entrance and projecting one storey bay. First floor windows have architraves and cornices. Main cornice and blocking course. Below second floor windows the deep plat band is inscribed in early C19 lettering with pub's name. Cast iron railings to area. Upper floors to Hay's Mews of plain brick.”
