Masons Arms

38 Maddox Street
Mayfair
W1S 1PY

Although this pub is not a listed building, it is on CAMRA’s London Inventory as a pub of Special Local Interest. It has many similarities to the nearby Coach & Horses in Bruton Street (designed by Quilter) and is very likely to have also been designed by Quilter, probably in 1934. His trademarks can be seen here: the half-timbered, mock-Tudor exterior; the grape-and-vine-leaves cornices; the Tudor arch details (eg the fire surround and doorways); and the leaded windows. The pub is frequented by The Thirty-Nine Club, a group of makers, sellers and suppliers to the menswear industry since 1956. They meet upstairs in the pub on the third Wednesday of the month.
