Windsor Castle

23 Francis Street,
Westminster
SW1P 1DN

Not only has this Sam Smith’s pub reverted to its original name but also (possibly) its original layout. Splendid cut and etched glass screens and partitions now grace the interior, making it unrecognisable from its bland former existence. There is a stained glass skylight in the rear area which may have been the billiard room. The brewery has done well to make the most of the cornices (picked out in glorious colour), the ceilings and the stillion. Decorating the walls of the pub are pictures of Victoria and Albert, Windsor Castle and lovely little watercolours of interiors at the royal abode.

The Windsor Castle featured on the Passport Required: Evening Crawl of Pimlico in December 2011.
