Kings Head

4A Market Place,
Enfield,
EN2 6LL.

Reopened in November 2010 after being closed for several years, this locally listed late-Victorian pub was designed by Shoebridge & Rising in 1899 and is described in Pevsner’s Buildings of England London 4: North as “domestic Old English in character, with tile-hanging and half-timbered gables”. It has been refurbished but retains separate drinking areas, door lobbies, and some fine cut and etched glass windows. In the rear room there is a skylight, an egg-and-dart frieze and a large stained-glass window. However, some of the window panes in the pub are modern replacements. Note the pleasing pierced work above the windows in the main room.

The Kings Head featured on the Daytime Crawl of Enfield and Barnet in June 2004, and the A King, a Jester and a Bishop: Daytime Crawl of Enfield, Cockfosters and Barnet in February 2011.
