Cock Tavern

315 Mare St
Hackney
E8 1EJ

This former Truman’s Brewery pub’s current building was built in 1930. After several years of neglect, it was lovingly restored and reopened in 2012. The Brewery History Society’s description is as follows: “A corner pub by A E Sewell for Trumans, 1930. Two tiled panels on the splayed corner. Top: a roundel with a Truman's eagle, painted gold, and 'TRUMANS'. Below: a large panel with: 'THE COCK TAVERN ... TRUMAN'S LONDON STOUT & BURTON BREWED BITTERS'. Also, two Truman's lanterns alongside the corner door.”
