New life for Kentish Town's much loved Bull & Gate

Thursday 21 February 2013

The Bull and Gate, a very striking landmark in Kentish Town, announced in November that it would close.

There had been worries that the grade II listed pub could be snapped up by property developers but the good news is that the pub will remain as a pub when it is re-opened by new owners, Young's.

Until recently, The Bull and Gate, for a number of year, had developed a rich musical history, having played host to gigs by Blur, Coldplay, The Manic Street Preachers and Nirvana.

The Bull and Gate is important architecturally. Built in 1871, it has a grand exterior and a wealth of important features within, including a panelled counter and decorative cut glass mirrors. The Bull and Gate was featured on London Pubs Group pub crawl of Highgate, Archway and Kentish Town in June 2010.

The pub will undergo refurbishment to convert it into its use as a pub restaurant. There are still some concerns as to whether the historic Victorian interior of the pub may be affected by the change.
