135 Lower Clapton Rd
Clapton

Like the Crooked Billet, this is not a listed building but it is a former Watney Combe Reid pub dating from the 1840s. Between the wars buff-coloured tiles were adhered to the exterior of the pub at ground-floor level. Inside, the pub has been modernised but two fragments of (possibly relocated or imported) stained glass remain. You may be fortunate enough to be welcomed by Odie, the lovely pub cat who is definitely king of the Castle.

The Windsor Castle features on LPGs' Evening Crawl of Clapton and Hackney of April 2014.
