Carpenters Arms

Market Street
Windsor
SL4 1PB

Like the Royal Windsor, this pub is not a listed building but it is locally listed and the description is as follows: “Late 19th-century 2-storey public house with interesting detail. Three bays with projecting central bow window between coupled pilasters on console brackets. Three canted bay windows to first storey with deep modillion cornice above. Cast iron ogee guttering leading either side to decorative hoppers and square downpipes.”

Although opened out and thoroughly modernised, this Nicholsons pub retains several features worthy of CAMRA Local Inventory status, including its fine etched glass windows showing the tools of the carpenters’ trade. Note also the two entrances, each with Art Nouveau-style doors, reflecting the former internal divisions of the pub and featuring mosaics announcing, respectively, the pub’s name and that of its former owner, Ashby’s Brewery of Staines.
